|Título:||Maria Helena Mendes Pinto and the Encounter with Japan: an Analysis of the Semantic and Plastic Concepts of her Exhibitions|
|Editorial:||Universidade Nova de Lisboa|
|Descripción:||Maria Helena Mendes Pinto played an important role during a critical juncture in the history of Portuguese Museology. Thanks to her museum exhibitions, which emphasised the context of the pieces on display, she was responsible for nurturing a growing interest in studies related to the fascinating Encounter that took place between Portuguese and Japanese, from 1543 onwards, by means of innumerable exhibitions and other activities. The vivacity and sense of initiative that are so characteristic of Maria Helena Mendes Pinto afforded an increasing internationalisation, re-interpretation and awareness of Namban collections, which are fascinating reminders of the original Encounter.|
