Título: Strain Identification of Burkholderia cepacia Palleroni and Holmes and Pseudomonas fluorescens Migula Associated to Maize Crop by Polyphasic Taxonomy

Descripción: A polyphasic taxonomic study, which included phenotypic characterization, the indirect immunofluorescence (IIF), and the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was conducted for the identification of Burkholderia cepacia and Pseudomonas fluorescens strains previously isolated from maize rhizosphere. Conventional methods were used (API 20 NE, BioMeuriux), specific hyper-immune antiserum against the species under study, and specific primers were designed out of subunits 16S of the ribosomal RNA of B. cepacia and P. fluorescens. It was possible to identify 10 P. fluorescens strains and 27 B. cepacia, as well as to demonstrate the association of these bacterial species with the maize crop and its feasibility for biocontrol of pathogens.
