Descripción: The purpose of this article is to study the structure of the social and institutional determinants of the achievement of sixth-graders in Argentina and Uruguay in 1999. For this end, use is made of data from both countriesí national achievement tests and a model of logistical regression. The results show that although factors are basically the same for both countries, there are differential specifications in terms of cultural and economic capital, the compositional effect, gender, and the incidence of rural schools.
