Descripción: In this contribution, Sue Meneses provides an example of children’s language with the transcription of a brief oral story collected in 1996. The narrator is an 8-year-old boy from Comachuén, a community in the Purepecha mountain region. He tells the story of a rabbit who, on finding some money, decides to buy a guitar. However, he is deceived several times by other animals that ask to borrow the guitar, and then take it away, returning it in each case, however, when the rabbit begins to cry. The text is evidence of the language’s vitality, and also reflects certain characteristics of the narrative genre.
