Súmakua tsitsiki, 'Flor de añil'. Antigua canción p'urhépecha

|Descripción:||The author, Néstor Dimas, a native speaker of the language, relates in this text a part of the history of Purepecha music and dance, including details dating from the colonial period. He notes that musicologists have not yet found early musical scores, but that mention was made of the great ability of colonial Purepecha musicians to read music. Dimas includes the text from a 19th century pirékua that he has recovered from Riva Palacio’s work. Dimas’ knowledge as a member of a family of pireris, ‘cantors’, as well as his formation as an ethnolinguist and student of Purepecha traditions, let him present this example of Purepecha musical tradition with great sensitivity. He has translated his original Spanish commentary into Purepecha, reflecting the interest by the speakers in using the language in academic situations, and in this way implementing their policies for the refunctionalization of the language.|
